Four-way stop sign will calm traffic flow
The newly revamped intersection at Kensington B is expected to control the traffic flow and decrease collisions in the suburb.
Joburg Road Agency (JRA) recently erected a four-way stop sign and painted the intersection on the corner of Frere Street and Milner Road.
This intersection only had a two-way stop sign from one street and this was contributing to the collisions.
The owner of the property adjacent to the intersection even erected a barrier close to his property to prevent vehicles from crashing into his wall.
Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood believes that the four-way stop sign at the intersection will calm the traffic flow. “There were so many accidents here but since the inception of the four-way stop sign the situation has changed,” he said.
He also explained that this would hopefully regulate the traffic. “I am appealing to motorists in the suburb to use the stop sign and refrain from using it as a yield sign,” he indicated.
Sandy Heidstra from the Kenbrink Resident’s Association said it took JRA about eight years to be convinced. “We have done a lot of work over the past three years convincing them since the traffic in the suburbs had increased,” she said.
