Animal Welfare

    Home Animal Welfare

The Animal welfare team is a highly active group within our suburb. They have three main focuses:

    1. Lost pets
    2. Chipping pets
    3. Sterilising pets

    Lost Pets

The team actively works to reunite lost pets with their owners. This is through tracing owners, temporary homing pets on a short term basis,  and working with local vets to ensure that animals are chipped.

    Chipping Pets

The KRA actively promotes the chipping of pets in our suburb. A chipped pet is a pet that can quickly and easily be returned to its owner, resulting in a minimum amount of stress for the pet and the owner!

For this reason the Animal welfare team runs a chipping day in April and October each year. A reduced rate for chipping your animal is arranged with a reputable supplier and the chipping is done in the Park.

At the last chipping day over 37 animals were chipped in a single morning.

    Sterilising Pets

The KRA supports and works with Be Wise Sterilise. An organisation that actively promotes the sterilisation of pets to prevent unwanted births.

    What is Sterilisation?

    • It is a short procedure done by a Vet under anaesthesia. Pets can be sterilised from 3 months old already
    • Spaying refers to the sterilisation procedure that is done to female pets. During this surgery the reproductive organs, the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus are removed. She will not be able to go into heat and get pregnant.
    • Neutering or castration refers to the sterilisation procedure for male pets. During this surgery the male reproductive organs, the testicles, are removed and he will be unable to impregnate a female.

    Who to contact?

Please email the Animal Welfare team at animalwelfare@kenbrink.co.za for more information on the next chipping day or to sterilise your pet.
