On 5 April 2024, the KRA organised the first “Walk our Neighbourhood” event. The aim of the event was to increase community participation and to display to drivers on our roads that pedestrians are also road users.
Following several incidents, and harrowing near misses, the KRA Committee decided that it was time that we show drivers on the roads, especially our busiest roads, that they need to slow down and take note of people. Adults, children, and pets all came out in support of this initiative despite the darkening clouds and threats of serious inclement weather! A good turnout was received and a little drizzle and light rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of participating residents!
It was incredibly encouraging to see that, as residents walked the roads, cars did note and slowed down, with some even pausing for a quick moment of friendly banter. It was clear that the message was getting out – we share the roads, pedestrians and cars alike.
Throughout the walk we also had a chance to chat with one another and exchange stories, ideas, or just get to know each other better. It was a huge success and, we look forward to running the event more often and with, hopefully, greater numbers of residents joining in the fun and healthy exercise.
The KRA would also like to say a special thank you to the team from CSS. During the entire walk, a CSS patrol car drove behind the residents ensuring that they were safe and visible, and also showing any would-be troublemakers that our suburb is protected! Thank you so much, CSS!
Finally, a huge thank you to all who came out in support, even with the threat of rain! Our community is already a little stronger thanks to you!
